Cycling tour in Trebinje

The narrow-gauge railway, built at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, which connected the towns and villages of Herzegovina until the 1970s, has today been reconstructed into a bicycle path. The steam train, popularly called "Ćiro", was replaced by bicycles, so today you can go from Trebinje through Popovo polje, Ravno, Čapljina and along the Neretva River to reach Mostar. It is also one of the two longest sections of this railway, and there are 330 km long tracks at your disposal, which, in addition to Bosnia and Herzegovina, also pass through the territory of Croatia and lead you to Dubrovnik. The revitalization of the railway is the result of cross-border cooperation and financing by the European Union with the aim of preserving the railway as a historical heritage and developing a new tourist offer.

Thanks to this project, we are actively working on constantly improving the quality of the bicycle path and connecting famous locations along the railway route. The activation of the railway for tourist purposes has opened up new business opportunities for local producers and service providers.

The "Ćiro" trail passes through authentic and picturesque areas of Herzegovina and connects cultural and historical sites, rich religious heritage, natural phenomena, etc.

Depending on your preferences and fitness, Trebinje agencies offer several cycling tours that can be adapted to your wishes and needs. Among the most attractive and at the same time the most popular are the bicycle tour through the city of Trebinje and two historical bicycle tours.

The Ćiro historical route on the Trebinje Jazina route, 16 km long, upstream along the Trebišnjica river, offers picturesque Mediterranean areas combined with cultural and historical sights such as the Arslanagić / Perović bridge and the old town of Mičevac.

The Ćiro historical route on the Trebinje Zavala route, with a length of 45 km, is a full-day trip that includes a visit to extremely significant and attractive locations such as the Tvrdoš, Duži and Zavala monasteries, and the exceptional natural phenomenon of the Vjetrenica cave.

The "Ćiro" bicycle path offers you a great way to get to know the city's surroundings in an active and impressive way, so don't wait too long and book your tour.
